Harvest : the story

I have this overwhelming idea in me.
It has me both excited and nervous at the same time.
Listening to the Bonnie Christine podcast,
I love the way she put it, I feel “pregnant” with an idea.
Something inside me that HAS to give birth.

Artists are STARVED for community— Right?

Most of us work alone, isolated in home studios
with no one in our every day lives who understands just what we do.
We all need connection.
We all need people who get us.
People who cheer us on, listen to us, challenge us, encourage us.
We need people we can just sit and be with.
We need people to ask questions to, bounce ideas off of.
People who understand the ebb and flow of a creative mind and energy.

But how do you build that?

Let me share my story.
I invested big money into a class at the beginning of 2020.
Little did I know what 2020 would hold.
The class was focused on creative entrepreneurship and
all that it entails- a thousand dollars plus. Then, at the very end of purchasing the class,
you have the option of paying $30 more to be placed in a “peer group.”
THIRTY more dollars.
I waffled back and fourth and back and fourth on the idea
of if a peer group was something I needed or not,
something worth THIRTY more of the dollars I barely had.
I decided against it.
Then…at the very last moment, I thought, “what the heck, I’m already spending $1200, what’s $30 more?”
That class in 2020 changed my life,
and while the content of the course was extremely valuable,
it was that $30, and not the $1200 that made all the difference.

I was randomly placed in a peer group with 10 other creatives.
Peer group 33.
Little did I know this group would become a lifeline.
What started as a group of 11 creative women meeting monthly to talk through the modules of the class
has dwindled, but GROWN.
We now have a group of 5 who consistently meet weekly and speak daily.
We have a group of 8 that chat, share weekly tasks and victories on a Facebook page.
We are a group of creative women with the depth of relationship that I admit hasn’t always been easy to build.

When I step back and look at this group of artist friends that I have,
I truly don’t know how I could function without them.
I have others too, outside of this group that I’ve built important and essential relationships with.
I have artist friends I travel and attend festivals with,
artist friends I ask prayer from,
artist friends who I Marco Polo with in tears,
sharing the hardest things in life,
like divorce, death, and mental illness.
Artist friends who celebrate every little, and every big win with.

I want the same for you.

I want to help other artists build relationships like the ones I have,
because I believe they are essential,
not only to your success in the creative world,
but in achieving a healthy, balanced life.

I’m dreaming up some sort of workshop-
Not some huge investment, where you spend outlandish amounts of money
to learn a new craft, or iron out new skills,
but a workshop on building relationally in this business.
A workshop where I share HOW to actually make these groups work.
A workshop to introduce some of my ideas and invite you into a
membership community and small group with group mentoring.
